DETAILS

Archeology is an open discipline. Any adventurer can practice it with time, tools, and curiosity. Ultimately, it consists of discovering, unearthing, and deciphering the remains of the past, assuming the risks that this entails.

For centuries, magic has been persecuted and condemned to oblivion. Mages have been exiled or forced into conscription and followership. Peacekeepers and Inquisitors hunt down blood mages and their ilk. Spellcasters can only live freely in ostracism.

From these ashes, alchemy emerged, an art practiced by everyone from peasants to monarchs, and which has brought with it a new era of prosperity. Now anyone willing can replicate magic in their laboratory. Colleges of alchemy have quickly been founded across the continent to perfect this science.

However, Elyssia still holds secrets beneath its surface that threaten to be revealed. From ruins hidden beneath the desert sands, temples submerged by the lava of the Red Archipelago, or a Great Rift from which death breaks through... every corner of the continent hides a mystery erased by history.

To unravel these mysteries, the colleges created Archeoalchemy, a new discipline dedicated to discovering the origins of lost (or erased) history… and perhaps, of the power that nearly destroyed the world, or so some theorists speculated. Through alchemy, they hope to delve more quickly into ancient secrets.

The book consists of just over 50 pages, containing the different chapters:

  • The Archeology System. Although presented from the perspective of the continent of Elyssia, this book compiles and explains the entire mechanics for finding and unearthing everything from a simple cave, a relic, or a historical artifact, to large underground complexes. The entire system is perfectly adaptable to any other 5E campaign.
  • The Relic System. Every forgotten and buried object is buried for a reason. In Elyssia, it's usually because it poses more danger than benefit. The proposed system describes what relics, artifacts, or any other similar objects look like; how they are classified, what their benefits and dangers might be, where they come from, and, most importantly, how they might affect the user.
Also highlighted is potential archeological corruption, whether of the site itself or the artifact found. A latent evil that can spread like a plague if not properly cared for. Also included are 11 blood relics.
  • Tools and Equipment. Several magical items are detailed that may be useful throughout the archeology process.
  • Potions. The Elyssian College of Alchemy is developing new methods to facilitate the study of the ever-increasing number of ruins discovered throughout Elyssia.
  • Ancient Guardians. 11 new creatures that, for one reason or another, have become the protectors or custodians of tombs, chambers, forgotten temples...
